Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced that the 600 MW pit head thermal power station proposed at Sathupalli would soon become a reality. Addressing a public meeting at Madhira after laying the foundation stone for the Rs. 50-crore modernization scheme of the Wyra reservoir, he said that the construction of the power plant was under active consideration. Responding to a representation made on the power plant issue by Sathupalli MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao, he said the government would implement it soon. Dr. Reddy said, “It was time to draw a comparison between the four-and-a-half years of Congress rule and nine-and-a-half years of the TDP government.” From loan waiver to minimum support price for their crops, the government had demonstrated amply its commitment to the well-being of farmers. Over 4 crore farmers were benefited by the loan waiver in the country. Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhary and several State Ministers were present.

The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy said “it is time to draw a comparison” between the four-and-half-years of the Congress rule and nine-and-half-years of the TDP government.
Addressing a well attended public meeting at Indiramma grounds at Madhira, he said the Congress government succeeded where the previous regime failed.
The government remained pro-farmer all through and its policies helped in reviving vibrantly the dwindling fortunes of the peasant community. From loan waiver to Minimum Support Price for their crops, the government had demonstrated amply its commitment to the well being of the farmers.
He questioned as to why the NDA government or even the TDP, one of its constituents, failed to think of the loan waiver or any other measure that could have safeguarded the interests of the farmers. Over 4 crore farmers were benefited by the loan waiver in the country.
Some 63 lakh farmers had availed waiver of loans to the tune of Rs. 11,350 crores in the State alone while another 3 lakh farmers were extended incentive for being prompt in repayment of their agriculture loans.
The implementation of the NREGP had given additional income to the strengthening finances the rural households rather substantially. Every individual was necessarily given 100 of employment thus ensuring an additional income ranging from Rs. 8,000 to Rs.10, 000.
There are no contractors involved in the implementation of the NREGS works. There are no middlemen either. The wages were being remitted to the postal accounts and bank accounts of the beneficiaries directly. It had altogether been a different story with the implementation of the food for work in the TDP rule. The yellow shirts had enjoyed all the benefits.
SHGs
The Chief Minister said that the support extended to the self help groups in the State was intended to make the women self reliant. They should not feel the need to look to the help of the moneylender. Every woman must become a ‘lakhier’. The Chief Minister announced that the self- help groups in every mandal would be extended an assistance of Rs. 10 crores this year. Women empowerment was high on the agenda of the State.

‘Granite units need help’
KHAMMAM:
The Sathupalli MLA, Jalagam Venkat Rao on Sunday urged the Chief Minister to extending all possible help to the small scale units in the granite industry in the district.
Addressing a public meeting at Madhira after laying of the foundation stone for Wyra reservoir modernisation scheme by the Chief Minister, he said that that global melt down had its bearing on the granite industry as a whole.
The granite industry had a great employment potential and it was time to extend concessions on power and royalty.

A physically challenged boy, Kalvakatta John won the heart of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy by singing a song at his public meeting in Madhira on Sunday in praise of the Rajiv Arogyasri health scheme that benefited scores of people from the disadvantaged sections. For a moment he could hold the huge turn out spell bound as all the elected representatives and dignitaries cheered him with claps. Besides patting him the Chief Minister, felicitated him and asked the District Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar to consider his case for giving employment.
YSR responds positively to Minister’s proposal
Kakinada:
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has positively responded to the proposal for construction of a mini fishing harbour-cum-jetty at Uppada village when Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju impressed upon him the need to provide an exclusive harbour/jetty facility for about 7,000 fishermen of U. Kotthapalli mandal who are currently using a berth at Kakinada port.
Mr. Pallam Raju met the Chief Minister during the latter’s visit at Rajahmundry on Saturday and requested him to sanction the project so that the fishermen of U.Kotthapalli mandal need not entirely depend on Kakinada port for their livelihood.

HYDERABAD:
Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy would seek funds under the special Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AICP) for the Pranahita-Chevella and Polavaram projects when he calls on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Monday.
Dr. Reddy, who will be leaving on a two-day visit to New Delhi, will participate in the Chief Ministers’ conference and later call on the two leaders separately. Armed with the progress report on the Government’s performance, Dr. Reddy is planning to seek additional funds to take up the two prestigious projects, which will change the lives of people of Telangana and Andhra regions.
A press release from the Chief Minister’s Office said on Sunday that Dr. Reddy wants to impress upon the Centre that the Pranahita-Chevella project is the lifeline of backward areas in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak and Ranga Reddy districts.
The Chief Minister is expected to present a report on the proposed pension scheme for the Self-Help Groups in the State.
He will invite Ms. Gandhi to launch the scheme which is likely to benefit one crore women. Members of SHGs on attaining 60 years of age will get a monthly pension ranging between Rs. 500 and Rs 5,000.
The release said the Government was in the process of seeking the thrift group members’ opinion on the pension scheme till Sankranti. It will be implemented from April 1.
