Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office told this correspondent that Dr Reddy also wanted the police to ensure that traffic is stopped for not more than five minutes for the three VVIPs. “Traffic was once stopped up to Public Gardens even before the Chief Minister got into his vehicle at the Secretariat,” a CMO official said adding that Dr Reddy was also briefed about over-reaction of the traffic police.
Further, the traffic police also extends the facility to the home minister and to the director-general of police as a practice apart from other police top brass.
This apart, the police also stops traffic at junctions but do not clear it during the movement of the VVIPs. There were instances when the Chief Justice was caught in the traffic snarl. Meanwhile, voluntary organisations have suggested that the Chief Minister start to the Secretariat after peak hour traffic.
“He can schedule meetings at the camp office during peak hours,” Dr C. Ramachandraiah of the Citizens for a Better Public Transport, said. However, additional commissioner of police (traffic) N.V. Surendra Babu said it was necessary to stop traffic for the Chief Minister’s convoy. “It is not because the protocol demands but in view of the increasing security threat as well. We cannot take chances particularly when attacks like detonating bombs planted in a moving car taking place in other places,” he said.
YSR orders judicial probe
HYDERABAD: The State government has decided to order an inquiry by the CBI into the burning alive of six members of a family at Vatoli village of Adilabad district.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who reviewed the situation with Home Minister K. Jana Reddy and senior police officials accepted a suggestion to entrust the probe into the ghastly incident to the CBI. Dr. Reddy also announced a judicial inquiry into the incidents which occurred in Bhainsa town and the neighbouring areas on October 10.
Special investigation teams would be constituted to inquire into the Bhainsa incidents and the police had been asked to be tough and take stringent action against the anti-social elements. Asserting that the truth should come out, the Chief Minister wanted the officials concerned to ensure that no innocent person suffered in the process.
Dr. Reddy appealed to all sections of people in the district to observe restraint, be vigilant against rumours being spread by anti-social elements and help in maintaining peace and harmony.
Chief Minister’s visit to Sircilla raises weavers’ hopes

The local residents were all praise for Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for visiting the textile town on Sunday and consoling the bereaved families of powerloom weavers, who had committed suicide due to unemployment and increasing debts. The Chief Minister had won hearts of the weavers by announcing several sops for their rehabilitation.
Though the crisis started in the Sircilla powerloom industry from the year 2000 with the introduction of jet and auto looms in neighbouring states, the Chief Minister visited Sircilla for the first time on Sunday to console the bereaved families and inquire about their living conditions.
The Chief Minister observed that the benefits of 50 per cent power subsidy provided by the government was helping only the master weavers and not real workers. He instructed the district administration to take necessary measures to increase the wages of the powerloom weavers by holding talks with the owners, who were enjoying the benefits of power subsidy.

He visited Sircilla on Sunday and consoled the families of powerloom weavers, who committed suicide due to unemployment and increasing debts. He interacted with the widows and others along with Ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, T. Jeevan Reddy, J. Ratnakara Rao, Government Whip D. Sridhar Babu and local legislator Ch Rajeshwara Rao.
