‘Jai Telangana’ slogans greet Chief Minister

Virtually launching the Congress party’s election campaign from this coal-belt of north Telangana, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has reiterated that the Congress party alone would solve the Telangana statehood issue.
Categorically asserting that the Congress was in favour of Telangana, he said that he had announced constitution of Joint House committee only to sort out some issues pertaining to the Telangana problem. He was addressing a mammoth gathering at Nehru stadium here on Monday. He participated in distribution of pattas to about 17,314 beneficiaries after regularisation of their lands in the Singareni region.
Dr. Reddy said the Congress party alone was committed to solving the Telangana issue amid slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’. During the 2004 elections, his party had promised the constitution of a second SRC on Telangana, he said and added that if the TRS had agreed to the second SRC, the Telangana issue would have been solved by this time. He flayed the TRS for forging alliance with the TDP and Left parties, which were against the formation of smaller States.
He said that the TRS was causing more harm to the Telangana cause by forging alliance with TDP and CPI (M).
He also launched a scathing attack against TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu for diluting the popular programmes of its founder president N.T. Rama Rao.CWC member and Peddapalli MP G. Venkataswamy surprisingly changed his stand on Telangana statehood issue and hailed the developmental works taken by the Chief Minister in the region.
Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah, T. Jeevan Reddy, Government Whip D. Sridhar Babu, Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania and others were present.
YSR, Naidu, Chiru hail Rahman’s Oscar win
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday hailed the success achieved by noted music director A.R. Rahman in winning two Oscars for his work in Slumdog Millionaire.
He also congratulated Rasool Pookutty for winning the Oscar for best sound mixing, Gulzar for the best song ‘Jai Ho’ and the film’s team for winning the best film award. Mr. Naidu, while expressing happiness, said Monday would be remembered as a glorious day for the Indian film industry.
Inspiration to all
Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi and general secretary Allu Arvind also congratulated Rahman and sound editor Pookutty for bagging the awards, and described it a ‘proud occasion’ for the country.
Disturbance’ irks YSR
Some supporters of Makhan Singh Raj Thakur, a ticket aspirant from the newly-constituted Ramagundam Assembly segment faced the ire of Dr. Reddy as well as DCC president D. Sridhar Babu for disturbing the meeting by frequently raising slogans and showing placards demanding allocation of the ticket. Other aspirants — Kolleti Damodar, H. Venugopal Rao and Babar Saleem Pasha — also got supporters in large numbers.
YSR to tour Nellore district
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy will tour Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district on February 24 and 25.
He will participate in various inauguration programmes in Kovur, Nellore and Venkatagiri constituencies and participate in road shows.
Mr. Reddy will arrive in Racharlapadu village by 4 p.m. on Tuesday and lay the foundation stone for Dagadarthi-Mungamoor (DM) Channel estimated to cost Rs. 26.74 crore at Kodavalur mandal. The canal works will be taken up at a length of 16 km.
He will conduct ‘bhoomi puja’ for Pennaboina Chenchu Ramaiah Project (Gandipadu Project) being constructed at a cost of Rs. 29 crore at Sunnambattilu village and participate in a public meeting.
The Chief Minister will lay the stone for Pennar-Delta distributary canals’ modernisation works being taken up at a cost of Rs. 306 crore.
He will perform ‘bhoomi puja’ for construction of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), Shilparamam and Mini Ravindra Bharati and inaugurate ‘Harita’ Tourism bar and restaurant, and distribute house site pattas to the eligible poor in Nellore.
He will participate in road shows in Buchireddypalem, Kovur and Nellore on the first day and stay for the night in the city.
On Wednesday, Dr. Reddy will proceed to Venkatagiri by 9 a.m. and participate in a road show and leave the district at 11 a.m.
