YSR allays apprehensions
The State Government has allayed apprehensions over “dilution” of free power supply to farm sector and asserted that the Congress Government was committed to its promise of continuing the scheme. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who reviewed power supply situation with Energy Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir over telephone from New Delhi said the Government reimbursed all subsidies as well as expenditure incurred on purchase of additional power.

The eligible members of Indira Kranti Patham women self-help groups who were now getting a monthly pension from Rs. 500 to Rs. 2,200 might even earn up to Rs. 6,000 per month in future, Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy said here on Sunday.
Speaking after launching ‘Abhaya Hastham’ pension scheme in Anantapur revenue division here, he said the scheme was introduced after a year-long ground work and meetings with intellectuals. The days of elderly women in rural areas, particularly those aged above 60 years, depending on kin or others unable to toil for wages would be a thing of the past with Abhaya Hastam scheme, the Minister noted.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha said allotment of house sites, houses and land only in the name of women was another step taken up by the State government to empower women.
Anantapur Lok Sabha member A. Venkatarami Reddy said the scheme would also help bring down the female foeticide in the State. Mayor R. Parasuram, Anantapur legislator B. Narayana Reddyand others also spoke.
Security for women
The Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government introduced Abhaya Hastam, a scheme aimed at providing security for women, said R. Changa Reddy, Minister for Law, Courts, Technical & Intermediate Education. Abhaya Hastam and Pavala Vaddi schemes for farmers were launched by the Minister here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion he said that the Abhaya Hastam scheme will cover 1.20 crore women in the State and 6.22 lakh members in the district.
Joint Collector S. Suresh Kumar, DRDA project director Radhakrishna Moorthy, jont director agriculture Siva Reddy and other officers participated in the programme.
