President leaves for Delhi
President Pratibha Devisingh Patil left for New Delhi on Tuesday morning at the end of her 17-day-long stay in the city as part of her annual sojourn in the South.
Governor N.D. Tiwari, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chairman of the Legislative Council A. Chakrapani, Ministers — K. Rosaiah, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mohd. Ali Shabbir, J. Geetha Reddy, P. Sabitha and Mukesh Goud, besides Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy, Director-General of Police S.S.P. Yadav and representatives of Armed Forces were present.
Visits Tamil Nadu
During her three-week sojourn, Ms. Patil visited Tamil Nadu twice, covering Rameswaram, Chennai and Vellore, apart from visiting Visakhapatnam in the State and Gulbarga in adjoining Karnataka.
Chief Minister greets people on Sankranti
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday wished people of A.P a happy and prosperous Sankranti.
‘YSR has allayed fears on port’
Local MLA Perni Venkataramaaiah said on Tuesday that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had assured him that the works relating to development of Machilipatnam Port would continue as per schedule.
The MLA said at a press conference that he met the Chief Minister along with Minister for Animal Husbandry Mandali Buddha Prasad and Machilipatnam Lok Sabha Member Badiga Ramakrishna in Hyderabad on Monday, to discuss the future of the port in the wake of doubts being expressed over the capability of Maytas Infra, promoted by the Satyam group’s founders, to execute the project.
The MLA said the Chief Minister had clearly told him to assure the people not to be anxious about the port project.
Dr. Reddy had said that the companies that were members of the consortium led by Maytas Infra were confident of mobilising the required financial resources by the end of April.
Mr. Venkataramaiah also said that the Chief Minister had assured him that the Government would purchase paddy with discolouration of even more than 25 per cent.
YSR leaves for Bangalore
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday morning left on a four-day holiday to Bangalore.
His family members also accompanied him to Bangalore. Soon after giving a send-off to President Pratibha Patil at the Begumpet airport here, Dr. Reddy took off for Bangalore.
He will return on January 16 evening.
