VIJAYAWADA: Chandra Jayadeep, a doctor and grandson of former CPI general secretary Chandra Rajeswara Rao, is all set to join the Congress in the city on September 30.
Attracted by the policies of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Dr. Jayadeep breaks the family’s communist connection and decides to become a Congress man.
A specialist in critical care, Dr. Jayadeep will formally take membership of the party in the presence of MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and other leaders on September 30. Prior to this, a procession will be taken out from Prajasakthinagar to Andhra Ratna Bhavan. He has nearly a decade’s successful medical practice in the city.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Dr. Jayadeep said that he was attracted greatly to the people-friendly policies and welfare measures of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy in the State. “In my opinion, the Chief Minister is a real socialist. He is one leader who has realised all ideals that my grandfather fought for,” Dr. Jayadeep said. Asked about his political ambitions, Dr. Jayadeep said that his immediate goal would be to work with senior leaders to strengthen the party and provide support on medical front. On October 2, marking Gandhi jayanthi celebrations, he would organise a medical camp. Dr. Jayadeep said that Dr. Reddy was indeed a socialist considering programmes like Rajiv Arogyasri he initiated in the State to provide relief to the poor.
